of Fr. Mike Keppler Sr.

Father
Mike passed into eternal rest on All Saints Day. Born in the Bronx of
New York to a Russian immigrant and a Bronx native, Mike would first
serve his country proudly in the Army Air Corp and the Army Infantry
during WWII, landing on Omaha Beach during the third wave of "D" Day.
After the war, he attended Trinity University in San Antonio, where he
met the love of his life Daisy Moravits. They married on December 19,
1948 and would spend the next 63 years together. To this union two
children were adopted, Mike Jr. in 1957 and Margaret Ann in 1960.
Father Mike was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in 1957 and
pastored many congregations and organizations throughout the Dioceses of
Texas for 33 years. He was also Chief of Chaplains for the Deer Park
Police Department, Episcopal Chaplin for San Jacinto College and Sam
Houston State University and Episcopal Chaplin to the Texas Department
of Corrections (for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas) for 10 years. After
retirement, Father Mike continued to serve his community and country. He
was active in the VFW and American Legion and served as a chaplain for
the Smithville, TX Honor Guard. Also he has served on many of the local
municipal organizations.
Retirement allowed Mike and Daisy to pursue their passion of traveling
in their pride and joy, their RV. They traveled to every state of the
union and every province in Canada experiencing many of God's natural
creations and national shrines.
Father Mike is preceded in death by his parents, sister and daughter. He
is survived by his wife, Daisy, son Father Mike Keppler Jr. and wife
Jane. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with
another due in the next couple of weeks.

Visitation will be from 6:00pm - 8:00 pm Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at
Marrs-Jones Funeral Home located at 104 Olive Street Smithville, TX
78957.
Funeral Service with Holy Communion will be at 10:00am, Tuesday, Nov. 6,
2012 at Calvary Episcopal Church located at 603 Spring Street in
Bastrop, TX 78602.
Burial Service with military honors by the Smithville Honor Guard will
follow funeral services at Oak Hill Cemetery on Hwy 95 South in
Smithville, TX. |
